Five/5ths Inc. Featured Artist: ALBe Back
The phrase “Renaissance Man” is thrown around way to often now days in this industry, no one embodies the phrase like ALBe. The MC/Actor/Poet/Producer/Writer/Director is most noted for his infectious humor as “Brooklyn” in the critically acclaimed film, Warner Brothers “ATL”. ATL’s Director, Chris Robinson, had known Daniel’s since he was a fifteen-year-old production assistant on his music video shoots in New York.
His instantly recognizable voice and look cuts through the current urban music landscape as he pours lyrical dynamite over every track that he approaches. ALBe rarely does two songs that sound alike, thus producing music that appeals to the core hip hop listener as well as to a more mainstream music market. ALBe does this by inviting you into his own unique colorful world of double entendres and metaphors that make your brain maneuver in every direction to capture every single meaning, pushing the boundaries of what we are used to listening to, combining a varied source of influences, all while still appealing to a very commercial audience as well as the core hip-hop fans.

Five/5ths Inc. Featured Artist: Amanda Diva
Amanda Diva isn’t crazy. She’s just not like anybody else you’ve ever met. And her work follows suit.
Amanda Diva Reel from amanda diva on Vimeo.
Straight to the point lyrics with a comedic edge, sang in her raspy from the gut voice over big production combining live instrumentation with an alternative kick, she defies genre, and expectations of what a popular female artist is “supposed” to be. She’s spunky, she’s sharp, and she’s got jokes for days. Her live show is like a venerable stand up routine coupled with soul moving music that is undeniably innovative, spontaneous, just plain awesome.
But music wasn’t always the goal. Starting off as a young actress on Nickelodeon sitcom, “My Brother and Me” Diva is no stranger to the madness that is showbiz. Moving to New York in 1999 she was exposed to the hip-hop culture in a completely new way than that of her hometown Orlando, FL and she was hooked. Soon she was writing and performing on the spoken word poetry scene before being chosen to appear on Russell Simmon’s Def Poetry Jam (’02 & ’05). While performing at a political fundraiser she was discovered by a Program Director at Sirius Satellite Radio and was quickly hired as a radio personality right out of college where she continued to thrive from ’03-’08 with her morning show “Breakfast at Diva’s.” During that time she also obtained a Master’s in African American studies from the prestigious Columbia University and served as the face of hip-hop on MTV2 interviewing close to every relevant hip-hop/R&B artist of the last 10 yrs including Jay-Z, Nas, Mariah Carey, Pharell, and even acting heavyweights like Tom Cruise and Jamie Fox. Her love affair with the small screen continues to grow as currently she serves as comedy commentator and music expert on VH1, writer & creator of “Diva Speak TV” a weekly humor based news/sketch comedy show featured on the extremely popular ThisIs50.com & “Diva Diva Ya’ll” an interview based lifestyle show rooted in showing audiences another side of their favorite artists/personalities and exposing them to some and cultures that they should know featured on heavily trafficked Karmalooptv.com. In addition Deev is also an accomplished visual artist who shows in exhibits, does live painting events, and has a hand-painted bag line, Spectrum, available on Karmaloop.com and AmandaDiva.com.

Five/5ths Inc. Featured Artist: Concep
Normally we pick a Musical Artist But This Time We Decided to Do Something A Little Different.
Concep is Brooklyn's answer to the renaissance ideal of the polymath artist. New Orleans-born Concep's journey in pursuit of intertwining his passion for visual arts, design, and dance led him to Brooklyn, where he has began to lay the foundation to his visionary empire. Cep gained large notoriety by winning MTV's 07 "Artbattles" Competition and has since painted for artists in the music industry and live at events in connection to Swizz Beats, Rich Medina, and Deeply Madly Living Gallery, Complex magazine, Girbaud, MTV's Wild'n Out, and Scion. Concep's ill skillz in street dance also allowed him to be involved in video productions for artist such as Mos Def, Little X, Eric Sermon, Timbaland, and Sa Ra. Cep's most recent endeavor was shot recently in his Crown Heights' studio in Brooklyn for MTV 2's Independent Music Week and MTV Africa's U.S. upcoming artist spot. As a designer, Concep has worked for urban brands such as Ecko Unlimited, Ruff Ryders, Pony and eventually landing a home at Marithé Francois Girbaud, a French brand specializing in premium denim and fashion graphics. His design work is intimately connected with his fine artistry, as you can find textile patterns that serve as inspiration for his design showing up in his paintings, or his paintings getting canvased on streetware.
His growing body of artworks is an unfolding story of the evolution of the self through the language of color. With a special talent for translating ideas, vision and energy, Concep has an ability to paint concepts, emotions and vibration that has an immediate effect on the observer (similar to the effect of music, which is much harder to achieve in painting). Encoding his key to the secret of life, the ever-present Pythagorean theorem, a2+b2=c2 (a(nthony)2=past, b(rown)2=present, c(oncep)2= future) is a reminder of the infinite possibilities that stretch between life and death, connecting dreams with the path of self-realization. Having elevated his magic surrealistic aesthetic of the street to a new level, Concep is ready to put some fire under the hyped-out art market sleepy asses.

Max B Sentenced to 75 Years
A rising Harlem rapper was sentenced Thursday to 75 years in prison for masterminding a deadly robbery at a Fort Lee hotel four years ago. His stepbrother received a life term plus 35 years for his part in the scheme.Charly Wingate, better known in hip-hop circles as “Max B,” was convicted of felony murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and several other offenses in a June trial in which witnesses testified that he planned the September 2006 robbery at the Holiday Inn on Route 4.His co-defendant and stepbrother, Kelvin Leerdam, was convicted of the same counts after jurors found that he shot one of the robbery victims, David Taylor. Both Wingate and Leerdam looked resigned when Superior Court Judge Harry G. Carroll sentenced them in Hackensack. Wingate said he was not happy with his attorney, Gerald Saluti, and fired him during the hearing just before he received his sentence. His mother, Sharon Wingate, said he will appeal the conviction.“We will be back,” she said.

In 2008, Naledge announced that work for his first solo album, tentatively scheduled for a fall 2009 release, had begun. I’ve been busy with shows, but I have some tracks in the works….I got beats from 9th Wonder, Black Milk, Double-O, Pete Rock and [two or three from] Just Blaze. Just Blaze has been my ‘yes man’, okaying tracks for the album.”In addition to his highly anticipated solo album, Naledge will be releasing a mixtape hosted by Mick Boogie RTC and DJ Timbuck2, titled the Chicago Picasso, on June 30th, 2009. can we KICK it
I never would of thought that my favorite kicks from back in the day would drop again. They would be the "AIR GRIFFEY MAX" yes people and they are back to slap you and your pockets in the face with 3 exclusive colorways: black and teal(the mariners), Black on black (mudered out edition), and black and infrared. O yeah baby if you no any better these should be number one on your must cop list of "09". The only downfall is that you wont be able to sport the black on black or the black and infrared at any family cook-out because they drop this holiday season, so make sure you get that special "sneaker freak" in you family these lovely works of Retroness lol. But you know your homie "B" going to keep you posted on these and the rest of NIKES retro extravaganza.
The Million Dollar Muscle Car
Today in the world of cars all you hear about is the new muscle car that is about to reappear for production. I just thought i would take it back to the muscle car that stood out from them all. A car that broke records on NASCAR tracks and then was banned from NASCAR period, I'm talking about the Plymouth SuperBird. The Superbird was unique in it's design with a super tall spoiler that gave it a very aerodynamic look to it. The Superbird was definitely a muscle car with its 6.2 liter 426 Hemi engine that boost 425 horsepower. The car is so exclusive that there is only a few in the united states today. If you want to purchase this beast expect to pay around $1,000,000 for it. The last bid on eBay for one was $900,000. A lot of rappers put old school cars in there videos, i would really love to see one cruise in a Superbird sitting on 30s. sike!

Kid Cudi signed to Universal Motown
In the days of artists getting signed to a major record label, then starting there own label up, Kid Cudi might stand out from them all. On April 15 it was announced that Kid Cudi will be joining Universal Motown. Kid Cudi's smash single " Day n Nite" has just given you a glimpse into the creative mind of the talented rapper who hales from the Buckeye state of Ohio. In addition to signing to the Motown, he's started up his own record label called "Dream On" with artist Plain Pat and Emile. You probably have heard of Plain Pat from doing a lot of work with Kanye West on production, Mainly the "Can't Tell Me Nothing" Mixtape. What separates Dream On from other labels is that Kanye West and Kid Cudi will always bring a extraordinary mindset to what to do with pushing the label to make it successful. Just look at what Kanye West has done with GOOD music. I'm definitely looking forward to the release of Kid Cudi's Album entitled Man on the Moon: The Guardian and more news from his new record label. The album is expected to be released later summer 2009.

"On this Day of April 16....."
Several important events took place on this day including:
A great man and basketball legend in Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor "aka" Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as most of common America knows him was born in 1947. Although Kareem was a standout at the University of California Los Angeles, he shocked many when he came into the NBA and became the league's leading scorer and lead the Lakers to five Championships.
Also on this date, while in jail for demonstrating, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote the "Letter From Birmingham Jail" in 1965. King wrote this letter because he was responding to eight white clergy men from Alabama who admitted that social injustices still were around but they should be fought through the court room and not the streets. King disagreed believing that civil rights could not be won without nonviolent protests and direct action. King stated that "not only was civil disobedience justified in the face of unjust laws, but that "one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws." (King -Letter from Birmingham Jail)
Thats all from ya boy T.O.
